Canvir, Inc. is developing a diagnostic test for carcinoma of the cervix which will replace the currently used Pap smear. The new test, currently designated HPVi, will have a dramatically higher sensitivity and specificity than the Pap smear. The company has accomplished many of the steps of the test development, has developed a proprietary cell fixative that allows the preservation needed for the assay, and has proof-of-concept data in women with a high risk of having cervical cancer.
